The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ruled in favor of Professor Ken Attafuah, former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), affirming that his 2023 dismissal of Martin Akowuah was justified.

Akowuah was terminated for unlawfully and unilaterally modifying the working hours at the NIA’s Madina district office.

Following his dismissal, Akowuah filed a complaint with the NLC, seeking redress. However, after a thorough investigation, the Commission ruled on March 14 that Professor Attafuah had acted within the legal framework governing public service employment.

“The Commission finds that the Respondent’s decision to dismiss the Complainant was in accordance with the Human Resource Management Policy Framework and Manual for the Ghana Public Service, as well as the NIA’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on registration".

The dismissal was based on the unlawful, unilateral, and irregular alteration of NIA working hours without proper authorization or approval,” the ruling stated.

In response to the NLC’s verdict, Professor Attafuah reiterated his commitment to fairness in employee management.
