Microsoft’s Copilot app for Windows has been unintentionally uninstalled on some devices following the latest Windows update. The issue stems from the Patch Tuesday updates released on March 11, 2025, which resulted in Copilot being removed from the taskbar and uninstalled on affected systems.

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem in a support document for the March Windows 11 update. The company confirmed that it’s actively working on a fix, but in the meantime, users who have been impacted can reinstall the Copilot app via the Microsoft Store and manually pin it back to their taskbars.

Although this appears to be a bug introduced by the recent update, some Windows 11 users who are not interested in Copilot may actually see the removal as a beneficial feature. Copilot, which is Microsoft's AI assistant, is still in the process of rolling out a more integrated, native version after initially being available as a basic web app. This new version of Copilot comes with an upgraded user interface (UI) and includes new features such as a press-to-talk hotkey, allowing users to communicate with the AI assistant, similar to how Cortana worked in Windows 10.

In addition to the updates already available, Microsoft is planning further Copilot enhancements, with some of these set to be revealed at a special 50th anniversary event on April 4, 2025. The event will feature Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, who will announce new Copilot features. There are also rumors that Microsoft is developing its own AI reasoning models to rival OpenAI's, which could lead to even more significant updates for Copilot in the future.
