Telegram Rolls Out New Features to Combat Spam and Enhance User Experience

Telegram has introduced a major update, bringing a host of new features designed to improve user experience, reduce spam, and introduce new monetization options. The update, aimed at Telegram’s millions of users, also includes enhanced security measures and expanded gifting capabilities.

New Monetization and Anti-Spam Features

One of the most notable additions is the Star for New Messages feature, which allows premium users to set a fee in Telegram Stars for receiving messages from individuals outside their contact list. This feature aims to minimize spam, maintain inbox organization, and even offer users a way to earn Telegram Stars.

Another key update is Contact Confirmation, which enhances security when receiving messages from unknown users. When a new contact reaches out for the first time, a pop-up information page will display details such as the sender’s country, shared groups, account history (including when they joined), and verification status. This feature provides users with greater transparency and helps prevent interactions with potential spammers or fraudulent accounts.

Enhanced Gifting and Profile Customization

Telegram has expanded its Stars system, allowing users to gift premium subscriptions to others using their accumulated Stars. Additionally, users can withdraw their earned Stars after a 21-day waiting period, making them redeemable for Telegram advertising or other platform services.

Further personalization options have also been introduced, including a new feature that allows users to pin up to six gifts on their profile cover. These gifts can be managed through the Settings menu under My Profile and Gifts.

Regulatory Updates in the Telecom Sector

In a separate development, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced new regulations regarding the testing and certification of satellite equipment. The regulations, set to take effect by the end of August, will require all companies providing satellite communication services in India to use or import only certified equipment. This marks the first time such certification has been mandated, ensuring compliance with national standards for gateways and user terminals.

With these updates, Telegram continues to evolve, enhancing both user experience and security while introducing innovative monetization tools.
